Perov Vasily Grigoryevich

Vasily Grigoryevich Perov was a painter, educator, and prominent art figure. He is the author of famous genre paintings such as "Rural Religious Procession on Easter" and "Tea Drinking in Mytishchi," as well as portraits of A. N. Ostrovsky and F. M. Dostoevsky. He studied at the Arzamas School of Painting and Sculpture under A. V. Stupin and at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under E. Ya. Vasilyev, M. I. Scotti, and A. N. Mokritsky. In 1861, he received a large gold medal from the Academy of Arts for the painting "Sermon in the Village." From 1862 to 1864, he was a pensioner of the Academy of Arts in France. He became an academician in 1866 and a professor in 1870. He was a founding member of the Peredvizhniki (Society for Traveling Art Exhibitions) and taught at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture starting in 1871.
