Pavlinov Pavel Yakovlevich
1881 — 1966
Pavel Yakovlevich Pavlinov was a Soviet graphic artist. He studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1903–1906) under D. N. Kardovsky. He was a member of the Moscow Association of Artists (from 1914, chairman from 1918) and the 'Four Arts' group (from 1924). He taught at Vkhutemas-Vkhutein (1921–1930) and at printing institutes in Moscow (1930–1950). From 1916, he worked primarily in woodcut. His works combine narrative with structural logic, using dynamic strokes to add expression (illustrations for Pushkin's 'Rusalka' and Ruffini's 'The Conspirators'). He is known for psychological portraits of E. T. A. Hoffmann and A. S. Pushkin.
