Korovin Konstantin Alekseevich

Konstantin Alekseevich Korovin (1861–1939) was a prominent painter, educator, theatrical designer, landscape artist, and portraitist. From 1875 to 1886, he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under I. M. Pryanishnikov, V. G. Perov, E. S. Sorokin, A. K. Savrasov, and V. D. Polenov. From 1885, he was a member of the Abramtsevo artistic circle. Korovin was a leading theatrical set designer, working for S. I. Mamontov's Russian Private Opera, and served as the chief decorator and artistic consultant for the Imperial Theaters in Moscow from 1910 to 1919. In 1900, he received two gold and nine silver medals at the Paris World's Fair. An Academician since 1905, he was a member of the World of Art, the 36 Artists, and the Union of Russian Artists. He taught at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and the State Free Art Studios. He lived and worked abroad from 1923.
