Iordan Fyodor Ivanovich

Fyodor Ivanovich Iordan (1800–1883) was a Russian engraver, educator, and Rector of the Imperial Academy of Arts. He studied at the Academy under N. I. Utkin. In 1827, he was awarded the Grand Gold Medal for his engraving 'The Dying Abel'. From 1829 to 1850, he traveled in Europe as a pensioner of the Academy. From 1860, he served as the curator of engravings at the Hermitage, and from 1875, he headed the mosaic department of the Academy. He is the author of numerous engravings based on works by Russian and Western European masters, including the famous 'Transfiguration' after Raphael.
