Iltner Edgar Karlovich

1925 — 1983
Edgars Iltners (1925–1983) was a Soviet and Latvian painter, People's Artist of the USSR, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts, and professor. He graduated from the Art Academy of the Latvian SSR (1949–1956), where he studied under E. F. Kalniņš and O. E. Skulme. He taught at the J. Rozentāls Riga Art School and the Art Academy of the Latvian SSR. Iltners was a master of thematic painting dedicated to the history of Latvia and the events of the Great Patriotic War. He was a laureate of the State Prize of the Latvian SSR (1965) for his works 'Masters of the Land' and 'Strong Hands'. He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various USSR medals.
