Feshin Nikolai Ivanovich

1881 — 1955
Nikolai Ivanovich Fechin was a portrait painter, educator, and master of genre paintings, landscapes, still lifes, and theatrical scenery. He also worked in sculpture and applied arts. He graduated from the Kazan Art School (1901) and the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1908), where he studied under I. E. Repin. In 1909, he received the title of artist for the painting "Cabbage Patch" and was awarded a small gold medal at the International Exhibition in Munich for "Portrait of an Unknown Woman." In 1910, he was an Academy pensioner in Europe. He taught at the Kazan Art School (1908–1923). From 1916, he was an academician and a member of the TPHV (Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions). During the Soviet period, he created portraits of revolutionary figures. From 1923, he lived abroad and taught at the New York Academy of Art.
