Bryullov Karl Pavlovich

Karl Pavlovich Bryullov was a great Russian painter, muralist, and watercolorist, a prominent representative of academicism. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts under A. E. Egorov and A. I. Ivanov. Having gained international fame after creating the painting 'The Last Day of Pompeii' (1834), Bryullov became a professor at the St. Petersburg and Florence Academies of Fine Arts. He was a member of the Milan and Parma Academies, as well as the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. He executed monumental paintings for the Kazan and St. Isaac's Cathedrals in St. Petersburg.
