Brodsky Isaak Izralievich

Isaak Izralievich Brodsky (1883–1939) was a painter, graphic artist, and Honored Artist of the RSFSR. He studied at the Odessa Art School (1896–1902) and at the Academy of Arts under I. E. Repin (graduating in 1909). He was a member of the Union of Russian Artists (from 1910) and the AKhRR (1923–1928). A pioneer of "Leniniana" in Soviet painting, he was known for his historical paintings and portraits. In 1933, he was awarded a gold medal at an exhibition in Munich, and in 1937, he received the Grand Prix in Paris. From 1934 to 1939, he served as director of the All-Russian Academy of Arts. He was awarded the Order of Lenin.
