Birshtein Max Avadyevich

Max Avadyevich Birshtein was a painter known for his portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes. He studied at the V. I. Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute (1935–1942) under I. E. Grabar, G. Shegal, and D. Mochalsky, and was influenced by R. R. Falk. In 1972, he received the prize of the All-Union 'My Contemporary' competition, and in 1975 and 1978, he was awarded diplomas by the Moscow Union of Artists. In 1999, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts. His works are held in the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and private collections.
