B.A. Messerer is a People's Artist of Russia (1993), a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts (1998), and a laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1996). For his set and costume designs for D. Shostakovich's ballet "The Bedbug," L. Delibes' "Sylvia," M. Tsvetaeva's drama "The Three Ages of Casanova," and P. Calderón's comedy "Beware of Still Waters," he was awarded the Silver Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts in 1987, and in 2001 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Academy of Arts. He is the president of the Association of Theater, Cinema, and Television Artists of Moscow, and a member of the Union of Artists, the Union of Cinematographers, the Union of Designers, and the Union of Theater Workers.
