Ioganson Boris Vladimirovich

Boris Vladimirovich Ioganson (1893–1973) was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the USSR, full member of the USSR Academy of Arts, and Hero of Socialist Labor. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under N. A. Kasatkin, S. V. Malyutin, and K. A. Korovin. He taught at the Repin Institute and the Surikov Moscow Art Institute. He served as President of the USSR Academy of Arts (1958–1962) and First Secretary of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He is the author of iconic historical-revolutionary works such as 'Interrogation of Communists' and 'At the Old Ural Plant' (USSR State Prize). His work developed the traditions of the Russian realist school, with a focus on the psychological characterization of his subjects.
