Fonvizin Artur Vladimirovich

1882 — 1973
Artur Vladimirovich Fonvizin (1882–1973) was a painter, graphic artist, watercolorist, and Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1970). He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under A. E. Arkhipov, K. A. Korovin, and V. A. Serov, as well as in private schools in Munich. He was a member of the 'Makovets' society. From the 1920s, he worked primarily in watercolor, becoming renowned for his series of actor portraits. In 1965, he received a medal at the World Exhibition in Paris for his portrait of ballerina M. Semenova. He also worked in book illustration, creating works for A. S. Pushkin and H. C. Andersen.
