Chistyakov Pavel Petrovich

Pavel Petrovich Chistyakov was a painter and educator, known for his portraits and historical and genre paintings. He studied at the Academy of Arts from 1849 to 1861 under P. V. Basin. In 1861, he received a large gold medal for his painting "Grand Duchess Sophia Vitovtovna at the Wedding of Vasily the Dark..." He was an Academy pensioner in Italy and France from 1862 to 1870. He became an academician in 1870 and a professor of painting in 1892. He taught at the Academy of Arts (1872–1892), headed the mosaic department (1890–1912), and directed the studio of the Higher Art School at the Academy (1908–1910). He was a full member of the Academy of Arts from 1913.
