Ulyanov Nikolai Pavlovich

Nikolai Pavlovich Ulyanov was a Russian painter, graphic artist, and stage designer, representing Art Nouveau and Neoclassicism. He was a Meritorious Artist of the RSFSR and a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts. In 1901, he graduated from the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he studied under N. V. Nevrev, I. M. Pryanishnikov, and V. A. Serov. He taught at the E. N. Zvantseva studio (1901–1907), the Stroganov School (1915–1918), and VKhUTEIN (1918–1922). He created portraits of cultural figures, historical paintings, landscapes, and stage sets. Notable works include portraits of V. I. Ivanov (1920, Russian Museum) and A. S. Golubkina (1937, Tretyakov Gallery). He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.
