Pasternak Leonid Osipovich

Leonid Osipovich Pasternak (1862–1945) was a painter, graphic artist, and educator. He is known as the author of paintings depicting the life of Leo Tolstoy and illustrations for his works. He studied at the Odessa Drawing School, E. S. Sorokin's private studio, and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He taught at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1894–1921) and was a founding member of the Union of Russian Artists. After 1917, he worked in portraiture, creating a series of sketches of V. I. Lenin. He lived abroad from 1912. His self-portrait is in the Uffizi Gallery.
