Dekhterev Boris Alexandrovich

Boris Alexandrovich Dekhterev (1908–1993) was a Soviet graphic artist, People's Artist of the RSFSR, and Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts. He graduated from Vkhutein in 1930, having studied under A. A. Osmerkin and I. I. Mashkov. He taught at the Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute and served as the chief artist for the State Publishing House of Children's Literature starting in 1945. Dekhterev is recognized as a prominent illustrator of Russian, Soviet, and Western classics, notably the works of Maxim Gorky. He primarily worked in pencil and watercolor. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
